Congratulations to Luci Misiaszek, chosen as Student of the Month by the CTE Learning Area. Luci has been an invaluable member of the Infant and Toddler Class, having taken the class twice. She can be relied upon to comfort and care for the babies without teacher direction, and she also shows up for the less-fun aspects of childcare as she takes responsibility for accurate documentation and the cleanliness of the room. Luci also helps out after school, which is a busy time with far fewer hands available, and she often works in the Infant/Toddler room during Flextime as well. It is crucial for the youngest members of our community to have reliable, skilled students to help keep them safe and supported. Luci, our parents, babies, and community as a whole appreciate your commitment and skill!

Congratulations to Alex Oehmke, named as January’s Student of the Month for the MDIHS ELA Department. Alex is an accomplished student who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and growth over the course of his four years at MDIHS in all aspects of literacy. His passion for reading and writing is evident in every assignment, and he consistently works to refine his skills. Alex excelled in AP Language and Composition this semester, especially in his personal writing. Whether through seeking feedback, revising drafts, or supporting his classmates, Alex shows a deep desire to engage with his peers and enhance everyone's learning. Congratulations to Michael Johnston, named December’s Student of the Month for the MDIHS Health and PE Department. In his four years at MDIHS, Michael has shown exemplary moral character, respect toward peers and community members, kindness and inclusivity, and an overarching sense of service. In a classroom setting, he encourages his classmates to converse, collaborate, and be involved in the school community and classes. In his community service class, Michael often would often deliberately partner with more quiet students to help them engage with project participants and feel more comfortable in the out-of-classroom setting. At the same time, Michael adapted to all the work environments the students encountered, whether reading to preschoolers, working in the library, or cleaning in the food pantry. In addition, he's willing to help out when needed as a ball boy or as a last minute spare hand to help with a kid’s fun run. Michael's kindness, hard work, dedication and dependability have improved our school and island community immensely. Thank you for all you've done, Michael!
Congratulations to Bowdoin Allen, named December’s Student of the Month for the MDIHS Health and PE Department. Bowdoin, a senior, has taken numerous PE courses throughout his MDIHS career, always exhibiting exemplary behavior and effort while participating. Kind and respectful to his peers and teachers, Bowdoin's ready smile adds a warm welcome to all members of the MDIHS community. As a three sport athlete (soccer, basketball, and tennis), Bowdoin has found physical activity to be a valuable tool to help improve both his focus and his physical conditioning. He's also looking forward to participating in Unified Basketball this year. MDIHS appreciates your cheerful effort and great attitude, Bowdoin!

In addition to his instrumental talents, he also sings in the choir and excels in Music Theory class, consistently demonstrating a deep understanding of music. Jacob’s communication skills with his peers and directors are outstanding, making him a role model for his classmates. His commitment to music and his proactive engagement in all rehearsals truly set him apart as a musician and leader. Thank you for your contribution to our programs, Jacob!
Congratulations to Morgan Matthews, the November Visual Arts Student of the Month! A senior who has been deeply engaged in MDIHS's art offerings since ninth grade, Morgan's extensive, mindful, and prolific approach to his art sets a quietly positive example: he consistently comes up with creative solutions to artistic problems and willingly helps teachers and peers solve problems. Inquisitive about art, academics, and ideas in general, Morgan is a great critical thinker and a prolific creator, carrying his journal with him everywhere. Self-motivated in his work habits, Morgan has been involved in a variety of extra-curricular arts programs such as Studio Based Learning at Haystack School of Crafts and MDIHS's chapter of NAHS; he's currently co-president! We appreciate all you bring to our community, Morgan!
