Welcome to MDI High School
1081 Eagle Lake Road, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 | Ph. (207) 288-5011
Sincere congratulations to Leaf Brehm, chosen as the November's Student of the Month by the Visual and Performing Arts department. Since arriving in the MDIHS community, Leaf has participated fully in all visual arts offerings, taking every arts course possible in their schedule. Leaf has offered excellence in craftsmanship, work ethic, attention to detail, and critical analysis in the classroom, and has represented our school in exhibits, in a variety of workshops at Haystack School of Crafts, and in the National ART Honor Society. Leaf's recent statement that “learning how to make my art more accessible while still presenting it in a personal manner that reflects my character and the messages I strive to share has helped me take a huge step in my artistic journey” demonstrates their growth mindset. We appreciate your contributions to our school culture, Leaf!

As an experienced member of both the percussion section in band and the bass section in chorus, Graham Carter has been stepping into leadership roles since his sophomore year. Now, as a senior, Graham is using all his learning to support the large group of new freshmen percussionists and bass section singers joining our program this fall. Graham’s leadership springs from his playing skills, but he is now actively teaching and guiding others. Whether by giving calm, clear direction, modeling strong musicianship, or helping his peers stay organized and focused, Graham ensures his section is always prepared for success. Graham’s consistency, maturity, and genuine care for his fellow musicians have made a meaningful impact on our ensembles. His leadership helps define the culture of MDIHS Music, and the Visual and Performing Arts department is proud to recognize him as our Student of the Month.

Warmest congratulations to Maeve Hurley, chosen as MDIHS Student of the Month for October! Maeve is a dedicated student who consistently produces high quality work and participates whole-heartedly in class activities, coming to class with a positive attitude and asking insightful questions that enrich discussions. She is friendly, caring, and willing to help others, whether in the classroom or on the soccer field, where she's known for her supportive attitude and hard work. Maeve is also willing to take risks in her learning, and has recently returned from a semester in Australia, where she experienced life with a host family and dove into adventures in a new school and new culture. Overall, Maeve sets a wonderful example of commitment, positivity, and perseverance. Thanks for all you add to our community, Maeve!

Warmest congratulations to Martin Hurley, chosen as MDIHS Student of the Month for October! Martin holds himself to high standards of discipline and integrity, whether he’s pursuing academic goals in the classroom, preparing wildfire mitigation lines in the Guatemalan highlands, or organizing events as a senior class officer. As both a strategic thinker and an effective problem solver, Martin seeks to understand the “why” behind every concept—whether on the robotics team or in math class. He’s also an upbeat, supportive teammate who inspires confidence in others, from the Spanish classroom to the soccer field. Next semester, Martin will set sail for an extraordinary experience—traveling from the Caribbean to the South Pacific via the Panama Canal. We are deeply grateful for all he has contributed to our school community. Fair winds and following seas, Martin!

We are delighted to honor Frances Stockman as September's Student of the Month, chosen by the Science Department. Curious about science and self-motivated in her learning, Frances adds a great deal to her classes as she works well with peers, is willing to ask questions, and responds positively to instruction. Even early in her ninth grade year, her upbeat attitude and engagement are clear. Congratulations and welcome to the MDIHS community, Frances!

We are delighted to honor Owen Carroll as September's Student of the Month, chosen by the Science Department. Owen, a sophomore, brings a high level of enthusiasm and interest to his science classes and to learning in general: he is always willing to ask questions and to help others understand the material. Owen's engagement in science extends beyond the classroom walls, as he even tries out science experiments at home. Thank you for all you add to our community, Owen!
